Daraus wurde dann Ende November ein Online-Vortrag, in dem neueste Forschungen zu Uranus und Neptun besprochen wurden. Die eigenen Untersuchungen und Ergebnisse zu Neptun - speziell zu zunächst rätselhaft erscheinenden deutlichen Temperaturschwankungen im mittleren Infrarot während der letzten knapp 20 Jahre, die also nicht durch jahreszeitliche Schwankungen zu erklären sind - wurden nun in einem Paper (auf Englisch) frisch veröffentlicht. <td style="font-weight: normal; color: #000000; font-size: 13px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left; line-height: normal;" align="left" valign="top" width="100%" class="long-text links-color"><p style="margin: 1em 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify;"><strong>Jetzt bis Ende April Merkur neben den Plejaden beobachten!</strong></p><p style="margin: 1em 0px; text-align: justify;">Der sonnennächste Planet Merkur ist notorisch schwer zu Gesicht zu bekommen, da er meist vom Sonnenglanz überstrahlt wird. Nur wenige kurze Male pro Jahr kann er sich "freispielen", d.h. genügend seitlich im Winkelabstand von der Sonne entfernen, und ist dann in der Dämmerung horizontnah ein, zwei Viertelstunden lang zu erspähen. Einer alten Legende zufolge soll sogar der berühmte Astronom Nikolaus Kopernikus auf seinem Sterbebett geklagt haben, den Merkur nie gesehen zu haben.</p><p style="margin: 1em 0px; text-align: justify;">Damit es Ihnen nicht ergeht wie Kopernikus, sollten Sie in den nächsten Tagen bis Ende April immer einen Wecker stellen: und zwar auf abends 21 Uhr, um Sie daran zu erinnern, nach Westnordwest Ausschau zu halten, wo bis zu seinem Untergang eine halbe Stunde später der kleinste Planet des Sonnensystems freiäugig sichtbar ist. Es ist dies die beste Abendsichtbarkeit des Jahres. Gerade wenn der Himmel noch aufgehellt ist von der Dämmerung, empfiehlt sich ein kleines Fernglas zum Auffinden. Es ist allerdings auch ein sehr sportlich-spaßiges Erlebnis, gerade auch mit mehreren gemeinsam, Merkur um die Wette, ohne optische Hilfen, zu suchen: Wer sieht ihn zuerst?<br>(Hinweis: Richten Sie ein Fernglas niemals direkt auf die Sonne, schwere Augenschäden wären die Folge, sondern warten Sie, bis die Sonne vollständig untergegangen ist; erst dann ist ein gefahrloses Aufsuchen möglich!)</p><p style="margin: 1em 0px; text-align: justify;">Übrigens lohnt der Blick jeden Tag aufs Neue, denn Merkur macht seinem Beruf als Himmelsboten alle Ehre und bewegt sich täglich ein merkliches Stück weiter. Er nähert sich dem offenen Sternhaufen der Plejaden im Stier an und wandert dort am Monatsende vorbei, wobei er leider an Helligkeit etwas verliert.
